What’s included
Testosterone, vitamin D and hormone markers
These biomarkers are included in your health assessment. Select a biomarker to see what it measures.
- Advanced Testosterone Profile
Total testosterone measures both protein-bound and unbound testosterone in the blood. Testosterone is an androgen hormone involved in reproductive and sexual function, as well as muscle and bone health in both men and women.
Free testosterone is the small fraction of testosterone that is not bound to proteins. It is often calculated from total testosterone, SHBG and albumin and can provide additional information when total testosterone is difficult to interpret on its own.
SHBG is a protein made mainly by the liver that binds testosterone and oestradiol in the blood. Changes in SHBG can affect the relationship between total hormone levels and the amount that is unbound.
The Free Androgen Index is calculated from total testosterone and SHBG. It can add context to androgen assessment, particularly in women, but is interpreted alongside the other hormone results rather than on its own.
Albumin is the main protein made by the liver. It helps keep fluid within blood vessels and carries hormones, medicines and other substances through the bloodstream. Low levels can occur for several reasons and are interpreted with other results.
- Vitamin D
This test measures 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the main circulating form used to assess vitamin D status. Vitamin D supports calcium absorption and is important for healthy bones and normal muscle function.
- HbA1c
HbA1c measures the proportion of haemoglobin with glucose attached to it and reflects average blood glucose exposure over the previous two to three months. It is widely used to help diagnose and monitor diabetes and prediabetes.
You’ll see each result, with a doctor’s note, in the myGP app.
About this test
Is this test right for me?
This test measures selected markers relevant to male hormonal and general health, including testosterone and vitamin D. Results can provide useful context when considering areas such as energy and wellbeing, but should be interpreted alongside your symptoms, age, medications and medical history, and best discussed with your doctor.
