Improving prevention with myGP

Improving uptake and awareness of respiratory services
The myGP platform can help increase uptake and awareness of NHS services, such as Respiratory services. Using Patient Questionnaires, the myGP platform has offered time-saving support to GP practices by efficiently capturing the smoking status of 22% of patient recipients. The myGP platform has also been able to provide remote patient monitoring, helping clinicians to improve health outcomes and track vulnerable patients’ COVID-19 symptoms and respiratory rate. In the fourth of our series of iPLATO Academy Webinars, we were joined by Robbie McMullen - Head of NHS & Partnerships at GPDQ, Francis White - Vice President Of Global Business Development at Adherium, and Arrash Yassaee - Global Clinical Director at HUMA as we discussed how technology can be used to redesign patient-centric pathways for respiratory conditions.

Improving uptake and awareness of cancer services
The myGP platform can help increase uptake and awareness of NHS cancer screening programmes. As a result of the NHSE/I London wide myGP Population Health Service, lunched in 2018 an additional 13,000 more women attended their cancer screening appointment during the pilot phase. Leading to earlier detection, earlier intervention, and ultimately, saved lives. In the third of our series of iPLATO Academy Webinars - held in partnership with Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust- we were joined by Simon Chowdhury, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust as we discussed how technology can be used to redesign patient-centric cancer pathways.

Improving prevention of cancer through increased screening uptake
myGP has been recommended for use nationally by Sir Mike Richards in the independent review of screening services, as well as in the NHSX digital playbook for cancer screening. It has proven to increase uptake of cervical screening in London by almost 6%. The service, which is ran by myGP and requires minimal input from surgeries in the regions – allows an SMS reminder to be sent to those who are yet to book their cancer screenings – prompting them to make an appointment.

Improving uptake of mental health support initiatives
The myGP platform can improve referral uptake to programmes such as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). A number of London NHS trusts and CCGs used myGP to increase referrals to the IAPT programme which uses talking therapies to help patients overcome depression and anxiety. The myGP platform has also been used to increase awareness of Kooth who provide online mental wellbeing services for children and young adults. Through targeted SMS messages, myGP were able to generate an additional 914 registrations for the service. In the second of our series of iPLATO Academy webinars, we hear from Dr Arrash Yassaee, Clinical Director at HUMA along with Clinical Psychologist Jeri Tikare at Kooth and as they discuss mental health digital pathways and share their learnings.

Improving uptake of diabetes prevention initiatives
The myGP platform can vastly improve referral uptake to programmes such as the National Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP). Camden and Islington CCG used myGP to identify and contact patients at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and increased self-referrals to the NDPP by 95%. In the first of our series of iPlato Academy webinars, we hear from Dana Hayes at Camden and Islington CCG and Dr Tony Willis of North West London CCG about their learnings from implementing digital care pathways for diabetes management.

Using call/recall to improve prevention of flu, other viral diseases and health checks
The call/recall function is unique to myGP – the platform continually invites a patient for their vaccination or health check appointment, until they book it. Those eligible can then view and book appointment slots on the myGP app, which are exclusively available to them. Resulting in reduced calls to the surgery and increased uptake of vaccinations and health checks – improving the prevention of flu and other possible long term conditions picked up at health checks.

Improving prevention through improved communication
The myGP platform brings together a number of communication methods to ensure that your population stay fit, well and healthy. With its roots in patient communication via the myGP app and two-way SMS messaging, it has evolved to be the only end-to-end digital first provider in England. It offers the patient the ability to book, cancel, communicate and have the consultation all from within one simple-to-use app.
