Ovarian Cancer: What are the symptoms?

Ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer among women after breast and bowel cancers and over 7,300 women in the UK are diagnosed with this illness every year.

Ovarian cancer is when abnormal cells in the ovary begin to grow and divide in an uncontrolled way, eventually forming a tumour.

Although the number of people that are affected is on the rise, 90% of women do not know the 4 symptoms that they need to look out for.

So, what are the symptoms?

  • Bloating
  • Discomfort in pelvic area
  • Feeling full quickly or loss of appetite
  • Urinary symptoms

At the moment there is no reliable screening or early detection tests for ovarian cancer but please see your GP if you have any of the symptoms that were mentioned above.

You can also take advantage of the preGP feature on our myGP app which uses insights to signpost access to clinical services by offering an earlier access to care.
